BASKETBALL team AND1 from the United States of America showed their country’s superiority in basketball when they beat Dar es Salaam All Stars 110-69 in a sensational friendly match played at Leaders Club in Dar es Salaam over the weekend.
The well-attended match started on a quick note with AND1 exhibiting their basketball prowess to win applause from spectators most of whom were the youth. Their victory could have been more than that had it not been for the challenging efforts by All Stars players led by Gibert Batungi, Alphaeus Kisusi and Frank Kusinga.

AND1 tour of various countries in the world is aimed at promoting basketball and particularly to motivate the youth to participate in the game. This initiative is also geared at encouraging active and healthy lifestyles among the youth.
AND1 started their tour of the globe in 2010 and have so far played basketball matches in Panama, Chile, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Botswana and Tanzania under the sponsorship of Coca-Cola through Sprite. From Tanzania, the team has proceeded to Saudi Arabia for a similar mission.
Speaking after after AND1 match against Dar es Salaam All Stars on Sunday, the chairman of the National Sports Council retired Colonel Iddi Kipingu commended efforts being made by Coca-Cola to support basketball in Tanzania and in the world in general. Coca-Cola is also sponsors the famous NBA league through sprite.
Last year, Coca-Cola sponsored basketball youth clinic held in Dar es Salaam and Morogoro under the supervision of Tanzania professional basketball player Hasheem Thabeet and retired NBA star Steve Smith.
